The story of Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions begins in 2008. The original company was named Alpine Insulation Solutions and was started when I realized that performing modern air sealing and insulation measures on existing homes often led to huge improvements in comfort and fast returns on investment. The business prospered, but I often heard a recurring story from homeowners. The story was that they’d started spending money trying to fix their efficiency or comfort problems years before, but often with little success. From what I saw, their problems stemmed from the fact that they were basing their buying decisions either on simple observations, commercials, or recommendations from friends— rather than a careful and comprehensive analysis of their homes. The result was often that $20,000 would get spent on new windows, when $4,000 in air sealing and insulation measures would have had a greater impact and faster payback. As a credentialed Building Analyst Professional through the Building Performance Institute (BPI) I knew that the right way to improve a home’s comfort or energy efficiency was to start with a comprehensive energy assessment. To remedy this problem, the decision was made to expand our service offering by adding HVAC, doors, and windows, while at the same time introducing energy assessments to our business model. Thus in mid 2012, Alpine Insulation Solutions was merged into Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions with the purpose of helping homeowners to make the smartest, best informed decisions possible when making energy efficiency and comfort upgrades to their homes. Lastly, in mid 2012 the decision was made to form a strategic partnership with the Dr Energy Saver company from Connecticut. They have the same mission as us; to use modern building science principles to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency and comfort of their homes. However, they also had some amazing software, home analysis tools, and financing resources that we thought would be a great addition to our existing service offering. So Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions is now also a licensed dealer for the full suite Dr Energy Saver services here in Pittsburgh.
